Igor Stravinsky

Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky(1882-1971), Russian/American composer. Born and raised in Volhynia, Ukraine, he was descended from the noble Polish Sulima-Stravinski family. He studied law at St. Petersberg Univeristy; 1901 to 1905; from 1902 he took private lessons from Rimsky-Korsakov; in early 1909 the successful premiere of Scherzo and Fireworks gained world recognition. He then settled in Switzerland and composed ballet music. In 1920 he moved to France and in 1925 started to tour US, moved to US in 1939, obtained US citizenship in 1945 and settled in Hollywood, California. He composed operas, ballet music, symphonies, concertos, orchestral music, chamber music etc.
